Werewolf romance

Fated mates
Two characters destined for each other by the moon, magic or instinct, usually felt as an instant pull the moment they meet. The tension comes from what they do with a bond neither of them chose.

Rejected mate
A werewolf heroine is refused by her fated mate, often in public. The story follows her leaving, growing stronger and the moment he understands what he threw away, so the payoff is both revenge and romance.

Luna
The Alpha's mate and the female leader of the pack. Hidden Luna stories give the title to the least likely woman, such as a servant or an outcast, which upsets the pack's order.

Alpha, Beta and Omega
The ranks of a werewolf pack. The Alpha leads, the Beta is second in command, and Omegas sit at the bottom. Romance plots often turn on someone rising above the rank they were born into.

Pack
The werewolf community ruled by an Alpha, with its own territory, laws and politics. Pack stories mix romance with power struggles over who leads and who gets cast out.

Rogue wolf
A werewolf with no pack, living outside its laws and protection. Rogues are treated as dangerous outsiders, which makes them natural bodyguards, enemies or forbidden love interests.

Slow burn
The romance builds gradually over many chapters, with tension and near misses before anything happens. Readers who like the build as much as the payoff look for this tag.

Forbidden love
The couple belongs to sides that must never mix, such as rival families, hunter and hunted, or ruler and servant, so every step toward each other risks everything.

He falls first
The hero falls in love before the heroine does and spends the story trying not to show it, which readers enjoy watching from the outside.

Grovel (he regrets everything)
The hero badly wrongs the heroine, she walks away, and he has to earn his way back, or fail to. Divorce revenge stories are built on this payoff.

Reader shorthand

Cliffhanger
A chapter that ends on an unanswered question or sudden turn, so you have to read the next one. Almost every MochiShorts chapter ends on one.
HEA and HFN
Happily ever after and happy for now. Romance readers use them to ask whether a story ends with the couple together for good, or together for now with the future open.
